Real-World Examples

Covered

Camera slides off table at reception

Your kid sets the camera on a table and someone bumps it. The lens cracks. With DadGuard, your liability is capped at 10% of replacement value instead of the full repair bill.

Covered

Tripod tips over on the driveway

A gust of wind knocks the tripod and the camera hits concrete. DadGuard covers accidental impact damage. Your liability is capped at 10% of replacement value instead of the full repair bill.

DadGuard+ Only

Stolen from your car overnight

You left the camera in a locked car and someone broke in. DadGuard+ covers theft and caps your liability at the lesser of actual replacement cost and 10% of replacement value. Standard DadGuard does not cover theft.

DadGuard+ Only

Lens motor stops working mid-shoot

The lens motor fails during normal use. With DadGuard+, you may receive a refund of the rental price, excluding shipping and DadGuard+ fees, if our post-rental inspection confirms a mechanical failure not caused by the renter. Without DadGuard+, Section 7 provides the equipment-issue remedies.

Not Covered

Spilled a drink on the camera

Water and liquid damage is excluded from both plans. We recommend keeping the camera in its case when not in use, especially at outdoor events near drinks.

FAQ

DadGuard Questions

Is DadGuard insurance?
No. DadGuard is a contractual liability cap, not an insurance policy. Nightfox Films self-insures all protection plans. You're not buying insurance; you're capping your maximum out-of-pocket cost if something goes wrong.
When does coverage start and end?
Your responsibility for the equipment begins when the carrier confirms successful delivery and ends when the carrier scans the return package. DadGuard applies during that period under Section 6 of the Rental Agreement.
What if I drop the camera?
With DadGuard or DadGuard+, your liability is capped at 10% of the camera's replacement value. Without DadGuard, you'd be responsible for the full repair or replacement cost.
What if the camera is stolen?
Theft is covered by DadGuard+ only, not standard DadGuard. With DadGuard+, your liability is capped at the lesser of actual repair or replacement cost and 10% of replacement value.
What counts as water damage?
Any contact with liquid: rain, spills, splashes, condensation from rapid temperature changes, submersion. Water damage is not covered by either plan. We recommend keeping the camera in its case when not in use, especially at outdoor events.
Do I have to report damage right away?
Report damage or equipment issues promptly by email or phone. If damage or a defect is present when the equipment arrives, notify us within 24 hours of delivery so it is not presumed to have occurred during your rental.
Can I add DadGuard after booking?
You can add or upgrade your protection plan any time before the equipment ships. Once shipped, protection cannot be added or changed.
Is the protection fee refundable?
Cancellation refunds follow Section 10 of the Rental Agreement. The amount depends on your payment schedule, whether the first balance charge has been attempted, and whether the kit has shipped.
What if the camera stops working on its own?
That's an equipment issue, not a damage claim. Section 7 of the Rental Agreement provides troubleshooting, a possible replacement, or a pro-rated refund for unused days. DadGuard+ customers may receive a refund of the rental price, excluding shipping and DadGuard+ fees, if our post-rental inspection confirms a mechanical failure not caused by the renter.
What counts as mechanical failure?
Mechanical failure means the equipment stopped working through no fault of the renter. Examples: shutter mechanism failure, sensor malfunction, lens motor failure, port failure. It does not include user error such as a dead battery, wrong settings, or not following the included instructions. Determination is based on our post-rental inspection at DadCam's sole discretion.

All equipment is rented as-is. We test before every shipment but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation of vintage electronics. If your camera stops working through no fault of your own, see our equipment issue policy in the Rental Agreement (Section 7). DadGuard+ customers may also be eligible for a mechanical failure refund (Section 6). *The rental-price refund excludes shipping and DadGuard+ fees.
